Weekly Round-Up: From Huh? to WOW! Quick Marketing Tips

I adore working with people to help them shine the brightest light on their product or service so they can experience what it’s like to finally “gain momentum” and take on a refreshed pride in their hard work. There’s nothing worse than working day-and-night on a great idea and not seeing successful results simply because you’re not being understood. 



So, each week, I put out some quick tips on Facebook, Twitter and email that are centered around some popular questions that came up in recent conversations. They’re called “From Huh? To Wow!” These tidbits and thought-starters are meant to be little upgrades you can easily fit into even your busiest week. Done in 20-minutes or less, they’re little steps you can take towards gaining that extra momentum by explaining your product or service in a more compelling, customer-attracting way. Here’s some of the ones that have been generating conversation in my inbox this week:



Tip #4: Find fun ways to communicate big numbers


Most people have an extremely challenging time grappling with and visualizing numbers, so the easier you make them to understand, the easier it will be to ensnare your customer's interest.


An example comes by way of something we are all aware of, but very few of us could properly visualize. We all live together on our beloved 24,901 mile-around planet Earth, 92,960,000 million miles away from the burning hot star that gives us life. While these units are commonly accepted, they are incredibly jarring for the brain to conceptualize. This beautifully designed, “tediously accurate” interactive scale model of the solar system helps convert these insurmountably large numbers into smaller ones easier for our brain to digest.

Tip #7: Work hard at repelling the wrong customer. 


How can you best thrill your customer? By working with the right people. Only attract the kinds of people you can truly help thrive - and repel those with problems your offering is unable to solve. Start by focusing in on using words and language that speaks to the precise people you can help the most.


Have an innovative product that decreases paperwork and helps businesses focus on generating revenue? Does it benefit small businesses or large businesses? Businesses with local reach, or those that operate globally? Can you reach the goals important to rapidly growing businesses that need help scaling, or those trying to sign their very first customers? Only speak to those you can powerfully help.



Tip #10: Generate excitement using your “About Us” page!


So many businesses miss this outstanding opportunity to connect with potential customers. Use this page on your website to tell people why you are interested in your chosen field. Don’t just use this space to yell elusive core values - Leadership! Compassion! Quality! - from the rooftops. Connect to your core customer with personal stories that tell the real, genuine why you are in business.




Tip #11:Don’t know how to open your video? Start by setting expectations ASAP.


The average view duration of a video posted to Facebook is only 18.2 seconds(!). From lack of patience to simply not knowing what to expect, people abandon videos before most even get to the heart of the subject matter. By adding captions, showing a preview before your (short!) branded intro or even providing timestamps of what to expect you can keep people engaged for the duration.
